The Honokaa Business Association on Saturday is presenting Honokaa’s first annual Renaissance Faire.

The family-friendly event will be held from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. at the Honokaa Union Hall and throughout Honokaa town.

The renaissance-themed event is free to the public, and all who attend are encouraged to wear festive garb (dress as knights, lords, ladies, fairies, pirates, elves) and join in on the fun in the historic town of Honokaa.

According to a press release, the event “will host an array of wondrous sights from local artisans peddling crafted wares and meals, medieval-themed games for all ages, a garden for parched guests to refresh themselves with mead or ale, a stage that is sure to impress with all manner of arts throughout the day, and so much more.

“Whether it be treasures found, games won, sights seen, or photos taken, this event is sure to make everlasting memories.”

“After a plague, isn’t it time to have some fun? We think so, and the response from the community has been huge,” HBA President Michelle Hartman said in the release.

“We aim to host a vibrant, all-ages celebration of a global resurgence in art, music, costume, community and culture,” added Krista Graves, one of the event coordinators.

While much of this event will be at the union hall, there will be plenty to see throughout the town as the local shopkeepers embrace the renaissance theme.

There will also be a great quest sponsored by The Friends of the Libraries, Hamakua, “to test the cunning and cleverness of the brave, taking guests on an adventure in search of powerful ancient symbols from around the world.”

The Honokaa Renaissance Faire is made possible with partnerships from the Honokaa Heritage Center, Honokaa Union Hall, Keystone Waldorf Homeschool, Friends of the Libraries of Hamakua, Waimea Community Theatre, the Hawaii County Council, Hamakua-Kohala Health, BSA Aloha Council Troop 1, and many others.

Honokaa Union Hall is located at 45-3720 Honokaa-Waipio Road. For questions about the event, please contact Michelle Hartman by phone at 808.775.9777 or email honokaarenfaire@gmail.com.
